3 Obvious But Overlooked Ways to Save Money Working From Home

During the Covid pandemic many of us have been faced with the reality of working from home remotely. Do you work from home? Do you know easy it may be to save more money while working from home? If not, then here are some tips on saving money when working remote.

Working outside of the office can be really fun and relieving, but it’s important that we don’t spend too much without realizing it. There are a lot of ways to save money while having an awesome time working remotely; one way is by cooking your own meals. Some other ways include saving more by using Netflix as entertainment, or cutting back on coffee shop trips. These things might sound like no-brainers, but they’re actually easy to forget about when you’re in the zone with work and craving outside interactions. You’ll be able to save even more if you start making these habits part of your routine – both as a way to save money for yourself and as a way to be more productive.

Cook Your Own Meals

Working from home is awesome, but it does have some downsides. One of the major downsides is that you’re going to feel less inclined to cook your own food since you’re not surrounded by people with similar meal times every day. However, cooking your own meals can save you a ton of money as opposed to eating out or getting take out every day.

Manage Your Entertainment Outlets

It’s also difficult to not get distracted when working from home. There are a lot of things you can do when working remotely to stay entertained. One way to help with this is by getting a Netflix subscription. It’s fairly inexpensive and can be a great way to wind down after a long day at work without spending a ton of money. You can also make it a point to “go outside” every day, whether that just means taking five minutes to go outside or playing sports with friends. You could even start working out at home if you’re feeling really ambitious!

Manage Coffee Spend

Another thing that people often end up spending too much on when working from home is coffee or other drinks that they pick up during the work day. It’s easy to go into Starbucks and get a $5 latte every day, but this adds up extremely fast and will end up costing you more money than, say, buying a Keurig has over the course of a year. This can be tough, but if you factor in what you spend daily going to the coffee shop every day and then add that up over a year, it’s likely that it will cost more than paying for a Netflix subscription. In other words, you’ll probably be better off.

Take Advantage of Your Freedom

The last thing I want to mention is working remote being a chance for you to really take advantage of your freedom and do more fulfilling activities while still getting your work done. For example, if you have a blog or website that needs to be updated every day, you don’t necessarily need to be sitting in front of your computer when you do this.

You can schedule WordPress posts ahead of time using an app like Hootsuite or Buffer, and then when they go live you can sit back, relax, and work on something that fulfills you while still getting your work done. This will save you money, make you happier, and generally make remote work a more enjoyable situation for everyone.

Bottom Line

Cooking your own meals, managing cheap ways of entertainment, taking less coffee trips and making coffee at home are all great remote work hacks to save money. If you’re working remote these days but find yourself spending too much on food or drinks without realizing it, try some or all of the above tips for saving more while staying productive.
