How I Made Money Upgrading My Old Phones, Tablets, and Computers
May 30, 2021As someone who makes a living working off his computer, it is no surprise that I often run into the situation of needing to buy a new smartphone, tablet, or computers. There could be a lot of reasons why I might be upgrading my electronics: there is a new feature on the latest android that I want, my laptop’s battery can’t hold a charge anymore, I cracked the screen on my 3-year old phone and I’d rather get a new one, etc.
However, once I upgrade my gear, I can’t stomach the idea of simply throwing my old stuff away, and letting it sit in a drawer for years as a “back-up”, “just in case”.
So to solve this dilemma, I figured I needed to sell my old devices for cash whenever I upgrade to something new.
$800 for a 4 year old laptop? Sure!
Recently I upgraded to the latest MacBook Pro 16” for a new job, and instead of having my old MacBook Pro sit in a drawer, I decided I should just get rid of it because I’ll honestly never turn it on again. I tried to sell it using eBay, Facebook, and craigslist, but I was getting too many low-ball offers, or had to deal with a lot of flakers who never came to inspect the laptop. I was getting desperate as I was already thinking about finding a box to store my old MacBook Pro in the closet.
Finally, I decided to check out various sites that advertised buying back electronics, and I sold my old MacBook Pro 2017 online at It’s Worth More and got back about $800!
What is ItsWorthMore?
It’s Worth More is a site that buys your devices:
- Cell phones (iPhone, Samsung & Android)
- Apple Watches
- MacBooks
- iPads
- Laptops
- Mac computers (iMac, Mac Mini & Mac Pro)
- Microsoft Surfaces
Trust me, I compared various websites and even physical locations of places that would take my old MacBook Pro, and these guys gave the best price, not to mention the most convenient user experience I’ve ever had. All I had to do was print out a shipping label that they provided, and shipped them the laptop. A couple days later, I got an email saying they will Zelle me the money.
They don’t only buy laptops and phones, there’s a large variety of electronics that they’ll take off your hands – and pay you for it.
Bottom Line
The price of old retail electronics degrade fast. A Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus you bought for over $1k in 2017, is worth less than $30 in 2021. There’s really no point in holding on to your old gear for the ‘just in case’ scenario after you’ve already upgraded your phone or laptop. I would suggest you sell your old gear as soon as you can to get the most value out of it before you’re really simply forced to either hoard it or trash it.
